Located in the Burlingame development along the Horsepasture River, Miller Falls is not accessible to the public. It’s a shame, as it’s a nice and easily reached little falls.

The only way to view this waterfall without trespassing is to own property in Burlingame or go with someone who does.

Special Considerations

 magazine includes a column about Whitewater Baptist Church being featured in the July, 1975 edition of the magazine and subsequent letters received by readers. One of these letters was from Linda Thomas, of Sapphire, writing about "our pretty little mountain church.” Thomas states, “We still baptize in the Upper Horsepasture River in the area called Miller Falls.”

Cultural History

includes at least one, and possibly four scenes shot at Miller Falls. In the one I’m certain of, Mary and Gretel attempt to cross a log above the waterfall. They slip and fall over the top section of the falls. They grab hold of a brush pile, which breaks away and causes them to plunge over the main section of the falls.

The next scene shows the top of another waterfall, which appears small. It could be a close shot of Miller Falls.

In another scene, Mary and Gretel argue in the woods at the edge of a stream, with a waterfall barely visible in the background. I’m pretty sure this is Miller Falls.

In the next scene, Mary and Gretel argue again at the edge of a stream. A small waterfall is in the background. I don’t think it’s Miller, but I don’t know what else it could be. The camera angle changes while Mary crosses the river, making it even more confusing what waterfall this is. The stream is large, though, so I think it’s the Horsepasture.
