Waterfall on Avents Creek
!
For locals, this waterfall is a great summer spot to spend a few hours reading by a creek and playing in the water, but it’s not something you’d drive a long distance for. That said, if you’re spending some time in Raven Rock State Park and especially if you visit Jumping Fish Falls, which is just down the road, this one is worth the detour.

Driving Directions
The trailhead is 0.5 miles from the trailhead for Jumping Fish Falls. It’s in an isolated section of the park on the north side of Cape Fear River. You can reach it by following US 421 a short distance north of Lillington and turning left on Christian Light Road. Follow the road a short distance and turn left on River Road (SR 1418). (I did not record exact mileages from Lillington to this point.) River Road changes to gravel at 0.9 miles and reaches a large parking area on the left at 1.5 miles, which is the trailhead for Jumping Fish Falls. Continue 0.5 miles to the bridge over Avents Creek. The waterfall is a short distance upstream and visible from the bridge.
