Pinkerton Pool Falls
!
Less than 500 feet from busy US 64 and only a couple miles north of Highlands, is the little-known Pinkerton Pool Falls cascading beautifully into Mirror Lake. The lake and surrounding land is privately owned.
One could paddle a canoe to the falls as a guest of a property owner. Actually, at present, one could walk to the falls and remain within the lake boundaries. Mirror Lake suffers from extreme sedimentation, with much of its acreage totally filled in and the remainder very shallow. Save Mirror Lake, a campaign created by the nonprofit Mirror Lake Improvement Association, is working to dredge and restore the lake. In January 2024, the association announced a $5 million grant from the state of North Carolina for the restoration work.
