Waterfall at Jordan Soccer Complex

!

Now you see it, now you don’t.

Jordan Soccer Complex in Fayetteville is the unlikely location for a waterfall I included in the 3rd edition of North Carolina Waterfalls. I was thrilled to discover this unique falls several years ago and was looking forward to revisiting it in preparation for the website listing.

Imagine my surprise to find this waterfall no longer exists. Actually, I wasn’t totally surprised, as a friend had alerted me to the situation, but I had hoped that maybe he wasn’t looking in the right place. Nope, he was.

Hurricane Matthew on 10/7/2016 or Hurricane Florence on 9/14/2018 (or both) totally wiped out a large section of the creekbed, obliterating the natural fall of the creek, along with the waterfall. There simply is nothing left to see here except a huge washout.

I know of several North Carolina waterfalls that have been altered due to floods and landslides, but this is the only one I’m aware of that simply disappeared.
