Waterfall on Pauline Longest Nature Trail
!
The Pauline Longest Nature Trail system is on the campus of Methodist University in Fayetteville. Until 2016 or 2018, visitors could hike the trail and see a really cool waterfall dropping 20 feet through sculpted clay. I included this falls in the 3rd edition of North Carolina Waterfalls.
Unfortunately, the trail system is no longer open to the public. The campus official I spoke to said that it has been closed since either Hurricane Matthew on 10/7/2016 or Hurricane Florence on 9/14/2018. Much damage was done in the Fayetteville region during these storms, including totally wiping out a waterfall upstream from this one. However, as best as I can determine, the Pauline Longest Nature Trail system suffered minimal damage and is still open for students and faculty. I don’t know exactly why the university closed it to the public.
