Pullens Falls
!
Using several sources, especially Mark Chilton’s wiki on Deep River,126 I’ve determined that Pullens Falls is a rapid beginning about three quarters of mile upstream from Lockville Dam and running down to the dam. Lockville Dam lies approximately 0.3 mile upstream from US 1.
One source from 1869 says that the falls here were called Jones Falls, although I’m not certain that this name refers to the entire rapid or just the part near the dam.71
Most, if not all the rapid is flooded under the backwater of Lockville Dam. I’ve heard that efforts are underway to remove the dam, which would reveal the rapids.
